A fragrant, savoury sesame chicken that goes so well with a bowl of steamed white rice! The sauce is so good, you’ll want every drop over your rice.
• Chicken drumsticks
• Chicken wings and drumettes
• Ginger, sliced
• Sesame oil
• Dark soy sauce
• Oyster sauce
• Salt
• Water
• Spring onions, chopped
1. Slice the ginger and sauté it in sesame oil until fragrant.
2. Add the drumsticks and let them char slightly.
3. Add the chicken wings and drumettes, then stir fry everything together.
4. Add water, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, a little more sesame oil and salt.
5. Cover and braise for about 20 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through.
6. Sprinkle with chopped spring onions before serving.
Serve with steamed white rice and your favourite vegetables. Enjoy!
1. Add boiled eggs: If your kids love eggs, add some boiled eggs to braise in the sauce so they can soak up all that flavour.
2. Leave the drumsticks whole: I don’t chop the drumsticks because it’s easier for my boys to hold and eat them.
3. Include chicken wings and drumettes: These are great options for little ones who enjoy holding their food. Always serve age appropriately, supervise children while eating, and check carefully for bones and cartilage.
If you prefer your chicken more tender, simply braise it for longer until it reaches your preferred texture.
For my family, though, I usually take the chicken out as soon as it’s fully cooked through. My kids don’t like their chicken too tender, so I adjust the cooking time to suit their preference!
That’s the thing about home cooking, you can always adjust a dish to suit your own family.
